Frequently Asked Questions
What Is EMS Training?
EMS stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. During a session, you wear a full-body suit that delivers safe, low-level electrical impulses directly into your muscles — the same way your brain signals your muscles to contract during exercise, but far more completely. The difference is that EMS activates nearly every muscle fiber in your body at once, including deep muscles that conventional exercise rarely reaches. The result is a full-body workout that takes just 20 minutes.
A typical workout at the gym activates roughly 40–60% of your muscle fibers. EMS activates up to 98% — simultaneously, across your entire body. That level of recruitment is physically impossible to achieve through conventional exercise alone, no matter how hard you train. It is why 20 minutes of EMS produces a training stimulus comparable to several hours in a gym.
No. Those devices use a technology called TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), which stimulates nerves near the skin's surface and does not produce meaningful muscle contractions. The VisionBody suit used at The Resistance is an FDA-cleared medical-grade device that drives genuine, deep muscle contractions throughout your entire body. The two are not comparable.
Yes, when performed with a properly certified system and a qualified trainer. The VisionBody suit is cleared by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) as a Class II Medical Device and independently certified by TÜV, a rigorous European safety and quality standard. The suit monitors electrode contact in real time and adjusts automatically. The Resistance trains clients ranging from their 20s through their 80s, including those recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions.
EMS is not appropriate for people with a cardiac pacemaker or any implanted electrical device, those with active cancer, epilepsy, or acute fever, pregnant women, or anyone with open wounds in areas where the suit makes contact. If you have a significant medical history, we recommend checking with your doctor before your first session. Every new client at The Resistance completes a brief health intake before we begin.
Why The Resistance Training & Wellness?
Several things set us apart from a traditional EMS studio:
- We come to you. Every EMS studio in Las Vegas requires you to drive there, park, and work around their schedule. We show up at your door with everything needed and leave when you're done. For most of our clients, that alone justifies the difference.
- One trainer. One client. Twenty minutes. Studios regularly pair one trainer with two or three clients per session. At The Resistance, every second of your session has one set of eyes on you and nothing else happening in the room.
- Your trainer knows you. This is not a front desk booking you into a rotation. You have a dedicated trainer who knows your body, your goals, and your history from session one.
- Complete privacy. No lobby, no waiting room, no other clients, no one you know walking in mid-session. For many of our clients, that is not a minor detail — it is the deciding factor.
- Better technology. The VisionBody suit we use offers capabilities that studio suits in Las Vegas do not, including full calf and shoulder coverage, no spraying or moisture required, and no wires or cables.
We come to you. Sessions are conducted at your home, your office, or your hotel — wherever works best for your schedule. For hotel and resort clients, we train at the property gym or another suitable space within the resort. We service Las Vegas Strip properties and select off-Strip locations. Contact us to confirm availability at your specific location.
Yes. There is no studio, no lobby, no shared space, and no other clients present. Your session takes place in your own environment with one trainer focused entirely on you. If privacy is important to you — and for many of our clients it is — this is built into how we operate, not an add-on.
One. Every session at The Resistance is one trainer, one client. Your trainer is not managing another client in the next room or watching a clock to rotate. You have their complete attention for the duration of your session.
Our trainers are nationally certified and have additional specialized training, knowledge, and hands-on experience in EMS-specific coaching. You will work with the same dedicated trainer across your sessions — not whoever happens to be available that day. Your trainer learns your body, your goals, and your history and builds your program around them.
The VisionBody Technology
VisionBody is a German-engineered, FDA-cleared full-body EMS suit that The Resistance uses exclusively. It was designed as a medical-grade training device — not a consumer fitness product — and it reflects that in both its construction and its results. Key features that distinguish it from other EMS equipment:
- Full coverage including calves and shoulders — areas most EMS suits omit entirely
- No spraying or moisture required before use — you put it on dry and begin
- No wires, cables, or external connections during your session
- No compression undergarment required
- A proprietary blend of EMS and EMA (Electrical Muscle Activation) technology that produces deeper, more natural muscle contractions than standard EMS alone
EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) works by sending electrical pulses into your muscles to trigger contractions. EMA — Electrical Muscle Activation — is a refinement of that technology that uses a more sophisticated signal pattern to produce contractions that feel smoother, reach deeper into the muscle, and more closely mimic how your body naturally moves. The practical result is more complete muscle recruitment, better coordination across muscle groups, and a more comfortable experience. VisionBody combines both technologies in a single suit. Most competing systems use EMS only.
FDA clearance means the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reviewed the device and confirmed it meets safety and performance standards for medical use. VisionBody holds Class II Medical Device clearance — a higher standard than a basic consumer fitness product. TÜV certification is an independent European quality and safety verification, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous testing standards in the world. VisionBody is the only consumer EMS suit that holds both.
The VisionBody suit holds FDA Class II Medical Device clearance, which may make equipment purchases eligible for HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) spending depending on your specific plan. We recommend confirming eligibility with your account administrator before purchase. Reach out to us and we can walk you through what we know and help you navigate the process.
Results & Who It's For
Sessions run 20–25 minutes. Because EMS produces such an intense and complete muscle contraction, your body needs at least 48 hours to recover properly between sessions. Two to three sessions per week is the optimal schedule for most clients. Training more frequently than that does not produce better results — recovery is where the adaptation happens.
Most clients notice improved muscle tone and firmness within two to three weeks. Visible changes in body composition typically appear between weeks four and eight. Recovery benefits — less soreness, better sleep, reduced stiffness — are often felt after the first few sessions. Clients focused on weight loss generally begin seeing scale changes around weeks three to five when combining sessions with reasonable attention to nutrition.
It builds real muscle. The depth and completeness of the contractions produced by EMS and EMA technology create genuine muscle growth when paired with adequate protein intake — the same physiological process that happens in a weight room, but triggered far more efficiently. This is the same technology used by physical therapy clinics and elite athletic programs to rebuild muscle after injury or surgery.
Yes, meaningfully so. The full-body intensity of a session raises your metabolic rate both during and for several hours after training — a well-documented effect sometimes called the afterburn. Over time, the lean muscle you build raises your resting metabolism, meaning you burn more calories even between sessions. Clients consistently report faster and more sustainable fat loss than they achieved through conventional training alone.
It is highly relevant — and for many clients on GLP-1 medications, it is the most important thing they can add to their protocol. GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy are effective at accelerating fat loss, but they also cause significant muscle loss if high-quality resistance training is not part of the plan. The problem is that traditional resistance training requires time, joint tolerance, and a gym — none of which fits every lifestyle.
EMS training produces the deep, high-recruitment muscle contractions needed to preserve and rebuild lean muscle mass — without joint stress, without a gym, and in 20 minutes. If you are on a weight-loss peptide, protecting your muscle is not optional. It is the difference between losing fat and losing your physique.
This is one of the strongest applications for EMS training. The electrical stimulus creates muscle contractions from the inside — no heavy weights, no repetitive impact, no stress on joints, tendons, or ligaments. Clients managing arthritis, chronic back pain, post-surgical recovery, or age-related muscle loss respond extremely well. The system is designed and used for clients ranging from their 20s through their 80s.
The system includes eight core training programs, each targeting a different goal:
- Strength and Muscle Building — increase strength, build definition, and develop real muscle mass
- Fat Burn and Cardio — full-body activation that triggers an extended calorie burn after your session ends
- Endurance — build stamina and aerobic capacity
- Recovery and Regeneration — reduce soreness, improve circulation, and speed up healing between sessions
- Wellness and Massage — relax tight muscles, relieve tension, and decompress
- Anti-Cellulite — targeted frequencies for skin firmness and stubborn problem areas
- Pelvic Floor and Posture — dedicated support for core stability, pelvic floor strength, and circulation
- Injury Rehabilitation — gentle activation without joint stress, designed for post-surgical or post-injury rebuilding
Your trainer selects and adjusts the appropriate program for your session based on your goals and how your body is responding.
Nutrition & Wellness Consulting
Yes. Nutrition consulting is available through Kathryn Goldberg, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Whether you are an active training client looking to get more out of your sessions or someone seeking nutritional guidance on its own, Kathryn works with you to build a practical, personalized approach to eating that supports your specific goals.
All nutrition services are provided by Kathryn Goldberg, RDN — a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. An RDN holds a nationally recognized credential that requires a bachelor's degree in dietetics or nutrition, a supervised clinical internship, and a passing score on the national registration exam. This is a meaningful distinction from general wellness coaches or nutritionists without clinical credentials.
Training and nutrition work together in ways that neither can fully achieve alone. EMS sessions drive muscle activation and metabolic change — what you eat before and after those sessions directly affects how much muscle you build, how quickly you recover, and how effectively your body burns fat between sessions. Kathryn works alongside your training protocol to make sure your nutrition is supporting the work you are putting in, not working against it.
No. Nutrition consulting is available as a completely standalone service. You do not need to be enrolled in EMS training to work with Kathryn. If your primary goal is improving how you eat — for weight management, energy, health conditions, or general wellness — that is reason enough to reach out.
A consultation begins with a thorough review of your current eating habits, health history, lifestyle, and goals. From there, Kathryn builds a personalized nutrition plan designed around how you actually live — not a generic template. Ongoing clients receive regular check-ins to track progress, refine the protocol as your body responds, and stay accountable to the plan. The goal is sustainable change, not a short-term fix.
Consultations are conducted remotely by default, which makes scheduling straightforward regardless of where you are. In-person sessions are available upon request. Either way, the quality of the consultation and the depth of the program are the same.
Consultations are $150 for a 50-minute session. Ongoing program options are available for clients who want regular support, progress tracking, and accountability over time. Contact us to discuss the structure that makes the most sense for your goals.
Pricing & Commitment
We offer several package and membership options designed around different lifestyles and levels of commitment — from single sessions to monthly and annual memberships. We'd rather walk you through the options after you've experienced a session than lead with a number before you know what you're getting. Every new client starts with a $29 in-person demo session, credited toward your first package when you enroll. Book yours and we'll find the right fit from there.
No long-term contract is required to get started. We offer flexible options including single sessions, session packs, and monthly memberships with no lock-in. Annual memberships are also available for clients who want the best value and include additional benefits. We will walk you through every option during your consultation so you can choose what actually fits your life.
Yes. Tandem training is available for two clients who want to train in the same session. Both clients train simultaneously, each in their own suit, with one trainer. It is a popular option for couples, close friends, or workout partners. Tandem memberships are offered at a discounted rate per person. Ask us about current tandem pricing when you reach out.
We ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice are charged at 50% of the session rate. We understand that schedules change — we simply ask for reasonable notice so we can offer that time to another client.
Practical Questions
The VisionBody suit is worn directly against your skin — no special undergarment or base layer is required. Light, form-fitting activewear underneath is fine. Most clients wear compression shorts or leggings and a fitted tank top or sports bra. Your trainer will walk you through the suit-up process before your first session — it takes under two minutes.
No. The sensation is a deep, controlled muscle squeeze — intense but not painful. Most first-time clients describe it as surprising rather than uncomfortable. Your trainer starts at a conservative intensity and builds from there based on your feedback. You are always in control of the experience.
No. Your trainer arrives with everything needed — suit, controller, and all supporting equipment. Nothing is required from you except the space to train and comfortable clothing to wear underneath the suit. If you decide to purchase your own personal suit at any point, that option is available and has some hygiene and fit advantages — but it is never a requirement to get started.
Yes. The Resistance is an authorized VisionBody affiliate, which means you can purchase a personal suit or full home system directly through us with full manufacturer warranty and proper sizing guidance. Owning your own suit means a form-fitted, hygienically personal garment for every session — your suit, not a shared one. We also offer package options that bundle suit ownership with ongoing training. Ask us about current options during your consultation.
No — suits are sized and fitted to an individual body and are not interchangeable. However, VisionBody offers a Partner System that provides two separate suits sharing one controller, designed specifically for couples or household partners who both want to train. Each person has their own suit and their own account. Sessions are scheduled back to back rather than simultaneously. Ask us about the Partner System during your consultation.
Getting Started
Book your $29 consultation and demo session online. It is credited toward your first package when you enroll. We come to you, walk you through how the technology works, and put you through a real session so you can feel the difference firsthand. There is no obligation and no sales pressure. Most clients make their decision after the demo — because the experience speaks for itself.
Your first visit is a consultation and live demo combined. We learn about your goals, your training history, and any physical considerations. We then put you through a real EMS session so you experience the technology directly. After the session, we walk you through the program and package options that make sense for your lifestyle. The whole visit typically takes about 45 minutes.
Yes. The best way to evaluate whether EMS training fits your goals is to feel it. No description or FAQ answer does what one session does. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you honestly. If it is — and for most of our clients it clearly is — you will wish you had started sooner. Reach out and we will take it from there.
